Hi
Everyone...
Thanks to everyone who made it out to see my shows at
Mountainfest. I had an absolute blast and I hope you did as well!
(Photo) Myself, Kim Baskerville (March Hare band) and Heidi Raye on stage at
Mountainfest.
I arrived in Merritt on Thursday, with some overcast skies, so
the weather was a bit cooler...which I am grateful for. It can get pretty hot in
Merritt (partly desert), so enjoyed the break from the heat that day. The fair
grounds is located in a small valley beside the Coldwater River.
Merritt
Mountain Music Festival grounds.
Singer/Songwriter's - "It All Started with a Song" event (Mountainfest
Activity Tent) From left to right: Chad Brownlee, Tracy Millar, Pauline
Kyllonen, Marion Weston & James Lee Harris Jr., Karen Fowlie, Gary La Rose
and Art Pruce
I performed at the "It All Started with a Song" event at 11:30
am...along with some other very talented songwriter's. Then, it was back into
town for a quick show rehearsal with the band March Hare. March Hare is
an awesome band from Vancouver, BC. I was very fortunate to have them backing me
up for my show, later that evening.
After rehearsal, I had a few hours to relax before
the show. So, I drove around Merritt for a bit, found a place to grab a quick
bite to eat and freshen up, and then headed back to the fair grounds for my show
at 8 PM.
Well, I must say it was quite the experience. It was
my largest audience to date and I had a great time. It's funny...during the
show, the rain clouds started to slowly move in. During the last half of my
final song, it started to sprinkle rain and then literally as I hit the last
note on my guitar, the rain began to pour, which sent everyone running for
cover. Talk about lucky for me, I do believe someone was holding off the rain
until I finished my set. :0)
For those of you, who couldn't make it out to the
show....I have posted a short clip of the performance on YouTube at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAny3S27dHI Have a look, when you have a
minute....and be sure to leave me a comment. I really love hearing from you!
After the show, I decided it was time to drive back
home. It was a very long, but exciting day for me....I was tired...and I had
been up since 5 AM that morning. Before I close though, I just have to share
another short story about my trip.
I decided to stop and buy a coffee for the drive
home, and was looking for what else?...a Tim Horton's. I spotted a couple of RCMP
officers on the corner and thought, well they have to know where I can find
one. Well, when I asked them...they just laughed. They said, "That's a bit
stereotypical isn't it". Actually, I hadn't thought that when I asked the
question...but yes, and I laughed too. Turns out, they weren't from Merritt, but
from Alberta. I assume that they were on loan for the festival. As luck would
have it....they did know where the Tim Horton's was. LOL
They asked where I was from and what I was doing in
Merritt. I told them I was in town to perform at the festival. One of the
officers mentioned that his wife had asked him to make sure he brought home a
souvenir from the festival, while he was there. I believe she requested
something along the lines of a bottle opener, with an autograph. I told him that
I couldn't give him a bottle opener, but I did have a CD that I could sign and
he could give that to her. Well, I signed a few CDs and gave them to him. I told
him that it was to thank him for their kind assistance with the directions.
He wouldn't take the CDs for free and ended up buying four.
Well, it turned out to be a wonderful trip. I met
many great new friends and I can't wait to do it again. Just a reminder that I
have a show coming up in Clinton on August 15th. I just found out that I may
have a couple dates, coming up in Alberta. Not sure of the location, dates and
times at this point...but will post them to my calendar when they are confirmed.
That's it for now. Thanks again for your support.
Stay safe and enjoy your summer and I hope to be playing in a place "near you"
soon. Take care.
